Is the biggest watch brand also the best one to buy? These are two different things. Mix them up, and you can pay full price for a watch that loses value the day you buy it.

Sales figures tell you which brand had a good year. They say nothing about resale value. This guide ranks luxury watch brands on both sales and resale value, using the February 2026 Morgan Stanley reports and what we see every week buying and selling these watches.

See the shortlist first, then the full ranking below, brand by brand, with a clear reason each one earns its spot and how it holds up when you sell.

Which Luxury Watch Brands Are Worth Buying in 2026?

The luxury watch brands worth buying in 2026 are Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Cartier. Just below them sit Vacheron Constantin and Tudor.

The top four are the safe picks. The first three often sell at or above their retail price, and Cartier holds strong demand across its range. The last two earn their spot for different reasons: Vacheron is a strong buy if you get it used, and Tudor gives you the most watch for the least money.

How We Ranked These Luxury Watch Brands

Five ranking criteria icons: sales and market share, value retention, liquidity, heritage and in-house movements, design longevity

We scored each brand on five things. The section below on 10 Best Luxury Watch Brands for 2026 is one overall ranking that blends all five, so a newer, cheaper brand can rank lower even when it is a smart buy. Our shortlist and goal picks lean more on value, so they can look different.

Here is what we looked at:

  • Sales and market share, from the Morgan Stanley and LuxeConsult Swiss Watcher report (February 2026, covering 2025).
  • Value retention, or how much a watch sells for used compared to its retail price, from Morgan Stanley and WatchCharts secondary-market data.
  • Liquidity, or how fast a brand sells once you list it.
  • Heritage and in-house movements, the traditional marks of prestige.
  • Design longevity, whether a brand’s main models still sell 10 years later.

The revenue figures are estimates. Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Audemars Piguet are privately owned and publish nothing, so analysts work them out from indirect signs.

The 10 Best Luxury Watch Brands for 2026

This is our overall ranking. It weighs sales, prestige, and how well each brand holds its value. Below are the 10 brands that make the list.

1. Rolex

Five Rolex watches: Submariner, Batman GMT, Pepsi GMT, Daytona, and two-tone Datejust in a leather tray

Rolex is the most valuable name in watches and the safest brand to put your money in. It made about 11 billion Swiss francs in 2025, took roughly a 33% share of the Swiss market, and sold more than a million watches. No other brand is close.

A steel sports Rolex is also one of the easiest luxury watches to sell at a fair price. The Submariner, GMT-Master II, and Daytona are always in demand and quick to sell. Our Rolex buying guide breaks down which references stay the easiest to move.

You will not see huge price jumps anymore because the wild gains of 2021 are gone. But for holding value, nothing beats it.

2. Patek Philippe

Five Patek Philippe Nautilus and Aquanaut watches in steel and rose gold inside a branded blue box

Patek Philippe is the top name for prestige, and its steel sports watches are among the best at holding value. It ranks fourth by 2025 revenue, yet many serious collectors still call it the best brand in the world.

The reason is a rare mix: family ownership, real skill with complicated movements, and an average price near the top of the industry. The Nautilus and Aquanaut are its strongest value holders.

The Calatrava and some other models sell below retail, so not every Patek is a good investment.

3. Audemars Piguet

Five Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watches in blue, black, green, and rose gold on grey stone

Audemars Piguet passed Omega to reach third by revenue, and it did it by selling fewer watches at higher prices: only about 53,000 a year, almost all built around one design.

That design is the Royal Oak, Gerald Genta’s 1972 steel sports watch, and it is now the brand’s main product. On resale, AP averaged about 3% above retail in the 2026 Morgan Stanley data, but that average hides a big gap.

The Royal Oak sells well above retail. The Code 11.59 sells well below. As with Patek, the model matters more than the name. Our Audemars Piguet Royal Oak buying guide covers which references carry that premium.

4. Cartier

Five Cartier watches including Santos, Tank, and Ballon Bleu on display stands in a boutique

Cartier is the clear number two by revenue and has the best design story in watches right now. It holds second place at about 3.5 billion Swiss francs, a spot it has held since passing Omega in 2020.

Its strength is range. The Tank, Santos, and Ballon Bleu go from affordable quartz to serious complications, so Cartier reaches buyers at almost every price while keeping its style.

Older pieces like the Crash and early Tank models now sell for high prices at auction. A Cartier stands out across a room, and demand has held up while much of the mid-market has slowed.

5. Omega

Five Omega watches including Speedmaster and Seamaster in blue and green on dark stone

Omega is the giant of affordable luxury. You get a lot of watch before the price climbs too high. It slipped to fifth in the latest report after sales and revenue dipped, partly from weaker demand in China.

Omega still sells in huge numbers, and the Speedmaster and Seamaster belong in any collection. Its resale also improved year over year, like the rest of the market.

Most Omegas do not sell above retail the way a steel Rolex does. We put the two side by side in our Omega vs Rolex resale value breakdown. You buy an Omega to wear it, and that is a good reason.

6. Vacheron Constantin

Five Vacheron Constantin Overseas watches in blue, gold, black, and chronograph variants in a wooden box

Vacheron Constantin has the deepest history in the trinity. Oddly, it also has the weakest resale value on new watches among the big names. Founded in 1755, it is one of the oldest watchmakers still running, and its finishing is as good as anyone’s.

The 2026 Morgan Stanley data put Vacheron near the bottom for resale, around 37% below retail on the models tracked. That gap is a chance for buyers.

The Overseas competes directly with the Nautilus and Royal Oak, at a lower price. Buy it used instead of new, and you skip most of the first-owner loss.

7. A. Lange & S├╢hne

Five A. Lange & S├╢hne watches including Lange 1 and Datograph on a suede tray in a warm library setting

A. Lange & S├╢hne is the German outsider that collectors rank next to the Swiss trinity. Rebuilt after reunification, it makes a small number of beautifully finished watches, with movements that other watchmakers study.

It does not chase volume or hype. Resale value depends on the model and is rarely high, but these watches stay respected long after trends fade.

Buy a Lange because you understand what is inside it.

8. Jaeger-LeCoultre

Five Jaeger-LeCoultre watches including Reverso and Master Moonphase on suede stands atop marble

Jaeger-LeCoultre is the movement-maker that other prestige brands quietly depend on, and it may be the most underrated buy on this list. It has supplied movements to far more famous brands, which tells you a lot about its engineering.

The Reverso and Master lines are design classics. Resale value is modest, so you do not buy it to make money. You buy it for high-end watchmaking at prices well below the trinity.

For a collector who cares more about the movement than the name on the dial, JLC is hard to beat.

9. Breitling

Five Breitling watches including Navitimer and Superocean on a cockpit table with aviation instruments

Breitling is the tool watch specialist that has quietly rebuilt itself into a sharper, more focused brand. The Navitimer and the modern Superocean lead a lineup for people who want a bold watch without trinity prices.

Resale value is weak, so buy a Breitling to wear and enjoy. It is not an investment.

You get real pilot watch history and a look that has not followed fashion. For the price, it has more character than most rivals.

10. Tudor

Five Tudor Black Bay watches in red, black, GMT, gold, and white on dark textured stone

Tudor is the smartest way into serious watches, and the fastest riser in the value data. It reached the top 20 by sales for the first time this year. In the 2026 retention report, it improved more than any other brand, moving from about 41% below retail to 26%.

Buyers are catching on fast. The Black Bay gives you Rolex-level build and design, made by Rolex’s own sister company, for a fraction of the price. See how it holds up in our Tudor Black Bay vs Rolex Submariner comparison. That is why Tudor sits last overall yet still makes our shortlist of smart buys: low on prestige and price, but high on value and rising resale.

If you want one great watch without spending five figures, start here.

Best-Selling Brands vs Best Value Brands

The sales ranking and the value ranking do not match because they measure different things. Sales show how good a year the company had. Value retention shows how much the watch is worth when you resell it. A brand can lead one list and rank low on the other.

Look at how the top of each list changes:

RankBy 2025 Sales (Turnover)By Value Retention (Secondary Market)
1RolexPatek Philippe (Nautilus, Aquanaut)
2CartierRolex (steel sports models)
3Audemars PiguetAudemars Piguet (Royal Oak)
4Patek PhilippeRichard Mille
5OmegaCartier (vintage and neo-vintage)

Cartier is second in sales, but it does not hold its value as well. Vacheron Constantin has centuries of prestige, yet its new watches rank near the bottom for resale value.

A sales chart tells you which company is selling the most. It does not tell you what to buy. The brands that rank high on both lists, like Rolex and Patek, are the safest to buy.

Which Luxury Watch Brands Hold Their Value Best?

Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Richard Mille hold their value best. These brands keep gaining market share while the rest of the industry shrinks. Their steel sports models often sell at or above retail on the used market.

Richard Mille is the one name here that is not in our top 10. It is a top-six brand by sales, but every model costs six figures, with no cheaper entry point like other brands offer. For holding value, though, it belongs in this group.

The Patek Philippe Aquanaut was the top performer, selling at around 90% above retail, and Audemars Piguet averaged just above retail, as covered above. Our Patek Philippe Aquanaut buying guide explains why it commands that kind of premium.

At the other end, IWC was about 38% below retail, with Vacheron Constantin close behind. If you pay full price for those, you lose money the moment you leave the store.

A watch is not a stock, and past prices guarantee nothing. Buy what you like, and treat strong resale value as a bonus.

Which Luxury Watch Brands Sell the Fastest?

Rolex sells the fastest, followed by Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet steel sports models. Speed of sale is called liquidity in the trade. Almost no ranking talks about it, but it decides whether you can sell quickly and get your cash when you need it.

Selling fast and gaining value are not the same thing. Often they work against each other. The easiest watches to sell, like a steel Submariner or a Datejust, sell fast because everyone wants one. But because so many are available, their prices do not rise as much.

The watches that gain the most value are often the hardest to sell quickly. Fewer people can afford them, even if those buyers have more money.

If you want the option to sell quickly, buy the brands that sell fast. If you can hold for years and wait for the right buyer, you can look at the slower selling brands too.

What Is the “Holy Trinity” of Watch Brands?

Holy Trinity diagram linking Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Vacheron Constantin in a gold triangle

The Holy Trinity of watchmaking is Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Vacheron Constantin, the three Swiss brands long seen as the best in traditional high-end watchmaking. They earn their spot on prestige and craftsmanship. That is different from ranking on sales or resale.

That is why the three land in different spots on our list. Patek and AP rank near the top for both prestige and value. Vacheron ranks lower for resale value on new watches, even though it is made as well as either of them.

People often ask why Rolex is not in the trinity. The answer comes down to their approach. Quality has nothing to do with it. The trinity brands make small numbers of hand-finished watches with complicated movements. Rolex makes tough, reliable watches in huge numbers.

Both are excellent. They just aim at different things, and the trinity was named long before Rolex grew into the giant it is today.

The Best Luxury Watch Brand for Your Goal

The best brand depends on what you want the watch to do. Choosing by goal works better than choosing by sales, because your reason for buying is different from the next person’s.

Here are the picks by goal:

  • Best for holding value: Patek Philippe or a steel Rolex sports model.
  • Best for selling quickly: Rolex, which sells fast at a fair price.
  • Best first serious watch: Tudor, for Rolex-level quality at a much lower price.
  • Best for craftsmanship and prestige: Vacheron Constantin or A. Lange & S├╢hne, ideally bought used.
  • Best all-around watch to wear: Omega, for its range and history, with no hype premium to pay.

Where to Buy Luxury Watches

Once you know which brand and reference you want, where you buy it matters almost as much as what you buy. There are two main options: the big online marketplaces and a specialist dealer. Each suits a different kind of buyer.

The big marketplaces are where most people start looking. Chrono24 lists watches from thousands of sellers worldwide. eBay covers everything from cheap finds to serious pieces. Grailzee runs auctions aimed at collectors. They give you lots of choice and let you compare prices, so they are a good way to see what a watch sells for.

The catch is that checking the watch is on you. The condition, the service history, and whether the set is really complete, change from seller to seller, and it is up to you to confirm the watch is real. For a cheaper watch, that is manageable. For a five-figure watch, the risk is much higher. If a marketplace is where you land, our guide to buying a watch on Chrono24 covers what to check before you pay.

If a brand sells below retail, buying used is the smarter move. If it sells above retail, a verified used example still beats waiting years on a boutique list.

At Majestix Collection, we buy and sell these watches every week. That is the same hands-on experience behind the rankings above. If you want a verified, genuine watch, or a straight answer on what a specific model is really worth, that is what we help with every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most affordable luxury watch brand that holds its value?

Tudor is the most affordable luxury watch brand that holds its value. It gives you Rolex-level build and design, made by Rolex’s own sister company, for much less money. It also improved its resale value more than any brand in 2026, from about 41% below retail to 26%. Without spending five figures, it is the clearest place to start.

Is Rolex or Patek Philippe the better buy?

For most buyers, Rolex is the better buy. A steel sports model sells quickly at a fair price almost anywhere, so it is the safer, more flexible choice. Patek Philippe wins on prestige, and its Nautilus and Aquanaut hold value better than almost anything, but they cost more and have longer waitlists. Pick Rolex for fast resale, Patek for prestige.

What does “full set” mean, and does it affect resale?

A full set is the watch with its original box and papers, and often the tags, booklets, and other extras it shipped with. It sells for more than a watch-only example, and that difference is bigger on the brands collectors care about most. If you are buying to hold value, a full set is worth paying more for. For how much the papers alone move the needle, see what a Rolex without papers is worth.

Final Thoughts on Luxury Watch Brands Ranked

This is how the luxury watch brands ranked for 2026: Rolex and Patek Philippe lead for safety and resale, with Cartier and Audemars Piguet just behind, and Tudor as the best-value way in.

Get the cleanest, most original example you can. A watch that has not been heavily polished or changed sells for more later. Check the exact version, down to the dial and bezel, because two watches with the same name can sell for very different prices.

Revenue tells you which company won the year. What you keep when you sell is a separate question. For a number based on real sales, ask a dealer what your exact watch is selling for today.
