The Panerai Submersible Carbotech PAM01616 is a 47mm automatic dive watch built around a case, bezel, and crown-protecting bridge made from Carbotech, a carbon-fiber composite. It is rated to 300 metres and carries the P.9010 automatic movement with a 72-hour power reserve.
It was presented at SIHH 2019, the year Panerai separated the Submersible into a standalone collection rather than a subset of the Luminor line. Under that reorganisation the dial carries the word “Submersible” rather than “Luminor Submersible,” and the reference moved from the earlier Carbotech 47mm piece to this updated version.
At launch the PAM01616 sat in the upper tier of the Submersible range, above the steel references and alongside the brand’s other technical-material dive watches. It was a regular production model, not a limited edition.
The watch pairs a matte black dial with blue luminous hour markers and blue dial text, a combination specific to this reference within the 2019 Carbotech group. It launched at approximately тВм17,000.

The dial is matte black with applied, blue luminous hour markers in the Panerai sandwich-dial format, where the luminous material sits beneath a top plate cut with the markers. Round luminous plots mark the hours, with a bar at 6 and a double bar at 12.

A small seconds sub-dial sits at 9 o’clock and a date window at 3 o’clock. The central hour and minute hands are sword-shaped and filled with luminous material. The printed dial text, including the “SUBMERSIBLE” line and “300m/1000ft,” appears in blue, matching the marker tone.
Printed lines read “PANERAI,” “SUBMERSIBLE,” “AUTOMATIC,” and “300m/1000ft,” with “SWISS MADE” at the base of the dial. The outer bezel carries a graduated 0 to 60 dive scale with a luminous marker at the zero position.
The case is Panerai’s cushion-shaped Submersible case at 47mm in diameter, with a published thickness of approximately 16mm. The case, the rotating bezel, and the crown-protecting bridge are all made from Carbotech. The surfaces combine brushed and polished finishes, and the layered structure of the material gives each case a distinct grain.

The crystal is sapphire. Water resistance is 300 metres. The crown sits under Panerai’s patented lever-locking crown-protecting bridge on the right side of the case, the defining feature of the Luminor and Submersible case architecture.
The caseback is coated titanium and solid rather than an exhibition back. The bezel is unidirectional and rotates to track elapsed dive time against the dial, with the graduated scale and luminous zero marker allowing the minute hand to be read off the bezel for immersion timing.
Carbotech is carbon fiber set in a PEEK (polyether ether ketone) polymer matrix, with the sheets layered irregularly so that no two cases share the same surface pattern. The material is lighter than steel or titanium and resistant to shocks and corrosion.
The PAM01616 is fitted on a black rubber strap carrying a blue “OP” logo, secured by a trapezoidal tang buckle in titanium with a black DLC coating and Panerai lettering. The lug width is 26mm.

The reference shipped with more than one strap. In addition to the rubber strap on the watch, a full set includes an additional diving strap and a strap-changing tool, allowing the owner to swap straps without a workshop visit. For a full-set listing of this reference, the additional strap and the tool are expected inclusions.
The strap attaches to the case at the 26mm lugs using Panerai’s screw-bar system. The buckle is a pin buckle rather than a folding deployant.
The movement is the Panerai P.9010, an in-house automatic caliber. It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), carries 31 jewels, and holds a power reserve of 72 hours across two spring barrels.
Functions are hours, minutes, small seconds, and date. The small seconds sit at 9 o’clock and the date at 3 o’clock. The movement includes a seconds-reset (hacking) function, which stops the seconds hand when the crown is pulled for time setting.
The date is adjusted through an intermediate crown position. The crown must first be unscrewed from the crown-protecting bridge before winding or setting, then screwed back down to restore water resistance.
The case, bezel, and crown-protecting bridge are Carbotech, a carbon-fiber-and-PEEK composite that is lighter than steel and titanium and resists corrosion and impact. Its irregular layering produces a visible grain unique to each case.
The crystal is sapphire. The caseback is coated titanium. The dial markers and hands use luminous material over a black sandwich dial. The strap is rubber, and the buckle is DLC-coated titanium.
The overall material character is a full technical-composite dive watch: a low-weight, high-strength carbon case paired with a titanium caseback and a rubber strap, with no steel or precious metal in the construction.

This reference sold within the Gen 1 box era, so an original full set carries the large traditional Panerai box with its outer box, booklets, strap tool, and additional strap. A Gen 2 blue box on a PAM01616 indicates a later service return or a replacement box rather than original packaging. A watch missing the additional strap or the strap tool is an incomplete full set for this reference.
The PAM01616 shipped with Panerai’s two-year international limited warranty, valid for service at authorised Panerai dealers and boutiques worldwide. The guarantee was supplied as a paper international guarantee card completed and dated by the selling dealer at the point of sale.
In November 2019, Panerai introduced the PAM.Guard programme, which extended the international warranty from two years to eight years for watches registered online. The extension applied to watches purchased from an authorised dealer, including those bought within the two years before the programme launched, so a PAM01616 sold in 2019 was eligible for the eight-year extension on registration.

A PAM01616 falls in the Gen 1 and Gen 2 warranty window, so its card is a physical dealer-stamped guarantee, eligible for PAM.Guard extension to eight years through QR or serial registration. The Gen 3 Digital Passport does not apply to this reference’s original sale, since it began in October 2023. As of today the original two-year warranty has expired on every example, and any live coverage depends on whether that watch was registered under PAM.Guard and when it was sold. A dealer-stamped, dated original card remains the primary sale-authenticity document for a full set, while a blank or undated card is a documentation gap.
At 47mm with a cushion case and the crown-protecting bridge, the PAM01616 is a large watch and wears as one. It suits larger wrists, and the Submersible case profile sits tall rather than flat.

The Carbotech construction offsets the size. Because the case, bezel, and crown bridge are carbon composite rather than steel, the watch is noticeably lighter than a steel Submersible of the same dimensions, which makes the 47mm footprint more manageable on the wrist than its diameter suggests.
The rubber strap and 26mm lug width suit the case scale, and the additional diving strap allows a change of fit. This is a tool-oriented dive watch for a wearer who wants presence and low weight, rather than an under-cuff dress piece.
The PAM01616 exists in one configuration: a 47mm Carbotech case, bezel, and crown-protecting bridge, a matte black sandwich dial with blue luminous markers and blue dial text, a coated titanium caseback, the P.9010 automatic movement, and a black rubber strap with a DLC-coated titanium buckle.
