The Luminor Marina Carbotech 44mm PAM01661 is a three-hand automatic dive-style watch built on Panerai’s Luminor 1950 cushion case, executed in Carbotech, a carbon fibre composite. It carries the brand’s small seconds and date layout and the Luminor crown-protecting bridge, and it is rated for 300 metres of water resistance.
Panerai previewed the reference in February 2020 ahead of Watches and Wonders Geneva 2020, as part of the Luminor Marina line. It was offered as regular production rather than a limited edition.
The reference brought Carbotech to a standard Luminor Marina for the first time, following the experimental LAB-ID Luminor 1950 Carbotech 3 Days PAM00700 of 2017. It also introduced blue Super-LumiNova to the Luminor line, drawn from the colour scheme used on the LAB-ID.
Within the lineup at launch it sat as a materials-led upper-mid piece in the Luminor Marina family, above the steel Marina references and below the gold and high-complication Luminor models.

The dial is matte black and built as a Panerai sandwich dial: a lower disc coated in luminous compound sits beneath an upper plate, and the hour markers and numerals are cut through the upper plate to expose the luminous layer below. This construction gives the markers depth and a thicker slice of lume than printed indices.
The luminous material is blue Super-LumiNova with a green emission. Arabic numerals sit at 12, 9 and 6, with baton markers at the remaining hours. A small seconds sub-dial is at 9 o’clock and a date window is at 3 o’clock. The hands are blue to match the markers.
Printed dial text reads LUMINOR MARINA in the upper half and PANERAI with Automatic below centre, with SWISS MADE at the base of the dial.
The case is the Luminor 1950 cushion form, 44 mm in diameter and 14.5 mm thick, with a 24 mm lug width. It is made from Carbotech, and a complete 44 mm case weighs about 96 grams. The irregular layered pattern of the material means the surface texture differs from one case to the next.
The bezel is fixed and also made of Carbotech. The crystal is sapphire. Water resistance is 300 metres.
The signature element is the Luminor crown-protecting bridge, a lever-locking Safety Lock device on the right side of the case that clamps over the winding crown. On this reference the bridge is executed in Carbotech to match the case.
The caseback is titanium with a black coating and screws down. It is solid rather than a display back.
The reference ships on a strap rather than a bracelet. The primary strap is a black Panerai Sportech fabric-over-rubber strap with blue stitching, matching the blue dial accents. A second plain black rubber strap is supplied in the box.
The buckle is a trapezoidal pin buckle in titanium with a black coating. A strap-change screwdriver is included for removing the buckle and swapping straps. Lug width is 24 mm.
The movement is the Panerai P.9010, an automatic calibre designed and produced in-house at Panerai’s Neuch├вtel manufacture. It measures 13┬╛ lignes (37.8 mm) in diameter and 6 mm thick, and is built from 200 components with 31 jewels.
It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) with a Glucydur balance and Incabloc shock protection. Two spring barrels provide a 72-hour (three-day) power reserve, and the rotor winds in both directions.
Functions are hours, minutes, small seconds and date. The hour hand can be advanced or set back in one-hour steps independently of the minute hand, and that adjustment also moves the date, which allows rapid time-zone or date correction without stopping the watch. Pulling the crown stops the balance for precise time setting.
The case, bezel and crown-protecting bridge are Carbotech, a composite formed by stacking thin sheets of carbon fibre in alternating orientations and consolidating them under pressure and controlled heat with a PEEK (polyether ether ketone) binding matrix. The material is light, corrosion resistant and shock resistant, and each block takes an individual surface pattern.
The crystal is sapphire. The caseback and the buckle are titanium with a black coating. The dial furniture uses blue Super-LumiNova over a black sandwich dial. The primary strap is Panerai Sportech fabric-rubber with the spare in plain rubber.
The overall material character is a lightweight, matte, carbon-composite build with black-coated titanium hardware and blue luminous accents.

Two box generations apply to this reference. The wooden presentation box was the original-era packaging, and the blue FSC-paper box replaced it during the 2022 to 2023 rollout. Because that rollout was market-dependent, a late-delivered PAM01661 supplied in the blue box is a correct, matched set rather than a mismatch.
The reference was sold with the Panerai International Limited Warranty, recorded on a dealer-activated warranty card from 2020 onward. The card is eligible for the Pam.Guard extension, which extends coverage up to eight years. A QR-code card linked to Panerai’s Digital Passport may appear on late-activated stock, with the at-scale rollout year unconfirmed.

One warranty generation applies to this reference: the dealer-activated Panerai International Limited Warranty card from 2020 onward, eligible for the Pam.Guard extension up to eight years. A QR-code Digital Passport card may appear on late-activated stock, but the at-scale rollout year is unconfirmed and it is not counted as a separate generation. A dealer-activated card is the primary authentication document for a full set, and a blank or photocopied card is a red flag.
The reference was produced across 2020 and 2021 and was replaced by the successor reference PAM02661.
The 44 mm cushion case is large in footprint and wears to its full size on the wrist, in line with the Luminor 1950 case. The crown-protecting bridge adds width on the right side. At 14.5 mm thick it has real height, consistent with its 300 metre rating.
What sets this reference apart on the wrist is weight. The Carbotech case brings the head down to around 96 grams, far lighter than a steel Luminor of the same size, so the watch feels lighter than its dimensions suggest.
The 24 mm Sportech strap and the spare rubber strap suit the large case and the sport brief. The size favours larger wrists, and the matte black carbon build with blue accents reads as a casual and sport-oriented watch rather than a dress piece.
This reference exists in a single configuration: a 44 mm Carbotech Luminor 1950 case and bezel with a black Carbotech crown-protecting bridge, a black sandwich dial with blue Super-LumiNova markers and blue hands, the in-house P.9010 automatic, and a black Sportech strap with a spare black rubber strap. The only in-box variation is the pair of straps supplied together.
The successor reference PAM02661 is a separate reference and its specifications do not carry across to PAM01661.
