Panerai Luminor 1950 Equation of Time 8 Days GMT Brown Dial Brown Alligator Strap Titanium 47mm MINT CONDITION COMPLETE SET PAM00656

$13,199.00

Reading the difference between sun-time and clock-time straight from the dial, the equation of time gives this Luminor a complication rarely encountered in an everyday sports watch. Long since discontinued and individually numbered on the caseback, it brings an unusual level of mechanical character to Panerai’s unmistakable oversized design. For the collector who already knows the familiar Luminor references, this is where the conversation gets considerably more interesting.

Presents itself in mint condition with little to no signs of wear. Set against warm gilt hour markers and gold hands, the smoked-brown sunburst dial melts from deep espresso at the rehaut to a lighter cognac toward the centre, shifting shade with every tilt of the wrist. Carved from brushed Grade 5 titanium and crowned by a mirror-polished bezel, the 47mm 1950 cushion case wears dramatically lighter than its dimensions suggest. Framed by the sapphire exhibition caseback, the hand-finished P.2002/E movement puts its intricate architecture on display for the wearer to admire.

Functions include hours, minutes, small seconds, second time zone (GMT), day-and-night AM/PM indicator, date, month, equation of time, and an eight-day power reserve. Winding and setting are handled through the crown on the right side of the case beneath Panerai’s signature lever-locking crown guard. Lift the lever to unlock it, then wind with the crown pushed home to bring the three-barrel P.2002/E calibre to life. Pull the crown to its first click to rapid-set the local hour in one-hour jumps; the date positioned between three and four o’clock advances as the hands cross midnight, allowing the local time and date to be set together. Pull to the second click to set the time and GMT hand together, with the small seconds resetting to zero for precise synchronisation. Push the crown home and secure the locking lever when finished; the month indication and linear equation-of-time display track accordingly once the watch is running, while water resistance is rated to 100 metres.

Comes as a full set, presented in its Officine Panerai wooden presentation box with warranty documentation, illustrated instruction booklet, Panerai screwdriver and pusher tool, genuine Panerai brown alligator strap with brushed titanium Panerai tang buckle, and additional beige textile strap.

Discontinued and individually numbered, this is the kind of Panerai that sits well outside the brand’s more familiar catalogue pieces. Its oversized 1950 case gives it unmistakable wrist presence, while the unusual configuration makes it particularly appealing to collectors looking beyond the standard production references. For someone searching for a Panerai that feels genuinely different from what usually surfaces on the market, this one deserves a closer look.
