Nothing excites fans more than seeing racing and watchmaking come together. The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Aston Martin F1® Edition (Ref. 81070-21-3405-1CX) is the result of this partnership, and it brings the thrill of Formula 1 to a timepiece you can wear every day.

Made in only 88 pieces worldwide, this release comes at the perfect time. It celebrates 75 years of Formula 1 racing and 50 years of the Laureato, one of Girard-Perregaux’s most important creations. The watch captures this dual celebration with details that Aston Martin fans will instantly recognize: a British Racing Green dial, lime-green accents, and a lightweight titanium case inspired by materials used in performance cars.

Understanding its importance starts with the story of the Laureato itself and the journey that led to this F1 Edition.

The Story Behind the GP Laureato Absolute Aston Martin F1 Edition

The Laureato made its debut in 1975, at a time when integrated sports watches were becoming a defining style. Its mix of a round dial, octagonal bezel, and curved case shape positioned it as Girard-Perregaux’s entry into the emerging luxury sports watch category.

After some period, the Laureato reappeared in 2016, rekindling interest among collectors. This revival led to the launch of the Laureato Absolute in 2019 – a larger, more rugged version sized at 44 mm, with a clear tilt toward sport and active wear

Fast forward to 2021, Girard-Perregaux formed an official partnership with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team, marking a meaningful collaboration between Swiss watchmaking and British motorsport. Their first joint release was the Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges – Aston Martin Edition, followed by several Laureato-based models featuring AM green and F1 styling.

This brings us to the Laureato Absolute Aston Martin F1® Edition, introduced on March 20, 2025, as Formula 1 celebrated its 75th anniversary and Girard-Perregaux observed 50 years of the Laureato line.

It is called the F1® Edition because it was developed directly with Aston Martin’s Formula 1® team, bringing racing elements into the Laureato line. The Absolute series was chosen as the platform because its 44 mm size, 300 m water resistance, and use of modern materials make it the best fit for a motorsport-inspired design. In this collaboration, Girard-Perregaux focused on the movement and case design, while Aston Martin added its signature touches: a British Racing Green dial with cross-hatch texture, lime-green accents matching the F1 car’s color scheme, and details like skeletonized hands shaped after Aston Martin grilles.

To see how the collaboration takes shape, the case and strap are the first details that put Aston Martin’s influence on display.

How the Case and Strap Bring F1 Engineering to the Wrist

The GP Aston Martin F1 Edition comes in a 44 mm Grade 5 titanium case that measures 14.65 mm thick. Titanium is often used in racing and aerospace because it’s both strong and very light, which makes the watch easier to wear without feeling heavy. The surface has a matte sandblasted finish, while the edges are high-polished, giving the case a mix of textures that makes it stand out.

On the side, the screw-down crown has a green rubber ring. This not only adds an Aston Martin touch but also makes the crown easier to grip when adjusting the time. Together with the screw-down construction, the case is built to handle 300 meters of water resistance, showing that it’s ready for more than just everyday wear.

Turning it over, the closed caseback is made of titanium and is secured by six screws. It has an Aston Martin wings logo along with the limited-edition number, reminding you that this piece is one of only 88 made worldwide.

The strap ties the whole design together. It is made from green FKM rubber, a high-grade fluoroelastomer also used in car engineering because it’s strong and flexible. On the outside, it has a fabric-like texture that matches the sporty theme of the watch, while the black inner layer gives the strap a more dynamic look. Securing it is a titanium folding clasp with a micro-adjustment system, so the fit can be quickly adjusted whenever the wrist needs a little more room or a closer hold.

But it’s on the dial where the partnership really shows, with Aston Martin’s racing colors and car-inspired details taking center stage.

A Closer Look at the Racing Green Dial

The dial is finished in Aston Martin’s British Racing Green, done in a matte style that gives it a strong, sporty look familiar to car enthusiasts. At closer glance, the surface shows a cross-hatch pattern inspired by the grille design on Aston Martin road cars like the DB12.

The hour markers sit slightly raised and shaped like half-triangles, giving the dial more depth. They are filled with lume that glows at night but appear white in daylight, the same effect used on the hour and minute hands. Both hands are partially skeletonized and accented with a bright yellow-green tip, the same shade used on Aston Martin’s Formula 1® car. The central seconds hand stands out fully in this yellow-green shade, pulling your eye across the dial with every sweep.

That same color highlights the frame of the date window at 6 o’clock and the “300 m / 985 ft” depth rating text, tying the details back to the racing theme. At 12 o’clock, the Girard-Perregaux logo is set prominently into the dial, adding a clear brand signature without overpowering the design.

The result is a dial that feels tied to Aston Martin’s racing identity in a way that makes the watch instantly memorable. And beneath this bold face lies the movement that keeps it all running.

The Engine Behind the Laureato Absolute Aston Martin F1 Edition

Powering the watch is the in-house Calibre GP03300-1060, a self-winding mechanical movement built at Girard-Perregaux’s manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds. It winds itself as you wear it, with the rotor turning clockwise to keep the movement charged. The rotor itself is made of heavy metal, giving it the extra weight needed for efficient winding.

The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and holds a 46-hour power reserve, so it will keep running even if you take it off for a day or two. It is made of 218 components and set with 27 jewels, reflecting the complexity and precision Girard-Perregaux is known for.

Although the closed titanium caseback hides the view, the movement inside is still finished to a high standard. The bridges and plates are decorated with traditional Swiss techniques such as Côtes de Genève (striped patterns on the surface), perlage (small circular graining), chamfered edges (beveled finishing on the sides), and engraved markings. These details show the same level of care that Girard-Perregaux uses on its more complex watches.

And while the movement handles precision on the inside, the next question is: how does the watch actually feel when worn on the wrist?

Wearing the Aston Martin F1 Edition Day to Day

At 44 mm across and 14.65 mm thick, the Laureato Absolute Aston Martin F1® Edition sounds big on paper, but it wears easier than expected. The secret is the Grade 5 titanium case, which is much lighter than steel and keeps the watch from weighing down the wrist. The matte sandblasted finish takes away any glare and gives the case a purposeful feel, the kind of look that fits as well at the track as it does for everyday wear.

The watch flows naturally onto the wrist because of its integrated strap design. Made of FKM rubber, the strap is both flexible and tough, offering more resistance to heat, sweat, and daily wear compared to standard rubber. On the outside, it shows a fabric-like texture that adds to the racing vibe, while the inside has a black lining that blends nicely with the green. The strap helps the case sit close to the wrist, which improves comfort and stability during wear.

Adding to that is the titanium folding clasp with a micro-adjustment system. This allows small changes in fit throughout the day – so, whether you want it tighter while on the move or looser while relaxing. Collectors who’ve handled the watch often point out that, while it has the size you’d expect from a 44 mm case, the titanium build and soft strap keep it comfortable and easy to wear in daily use.

Taken together, the case, strap, and clasp make this watch easy to live with, even at 44 mm. Now, let’s look at its full set of specifications in one clear view.
