The SpaceX was introduced in 2012 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 1962 orbit around the earth by John Glenn aboard the Friendship 7. After having made three laps around the earth and a safe return, Mr. Glenn became the first NASA astronaut to make the orbit.
