The Rolex Yacht-Master 42 reference 226627 is a 42 mm nautical sports watch built entirely from RLX titanium, Rolex’s grade 5 titanium alloy. It carries the running seconds, minutes, hours and a date, a bidirectional rotatable timing bezel, and 100 metres of water resistance, and it sits in the Yacht-Master line that Rolex introduced in 1992 for navigators and skippers.
Rolex presented the reference at Watches and Wonders 2023 as a new version of the Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master 42, the model line first unveiled in white gold in 2019. It is faithful to that model’s proportions and layout, and adds the material as the defining change.
The 226627 is the first Rolex made entirely in RLX titanium at a wearable everyday size. It follows the 50 mm Deepsea Challenge of 2022, which was the first serial-production Rolex in full titanium but an extreme-depth tool watch rather than a daily-wear piece. Within the current catalogue the 226627 sits as a regular-production professional model, not a limited edition.

The dial is intense black with a fine satin finish. The hour markers are applied in simple geometric shapes, circles at most positions, a triangle at 12 and rectangles at 3, 6 and 9, each filled with Chromalight luminous material that glows blue in the dark. The broad hands follow the same Chromalight treatment for legibility.
A date sits at 3 o’clock with instantaneous change, magnified by a Cyclops lens set into the crystal above it. The printed dial text runs across the standard Rolex lines: the crown logo and ROLEX at the top under OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE, with YACHT-MASTER and the SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED designation above 6 o’clock.
The overall look is monochromatic, black dial against the black ceramic bezel, with the metal furniture and hands providing the only contrast.
The case is the Rolex Oyster architecture in RLX titanium: a monobloc middle case with a screw-down caseback and screw-down winding crown, measuring 42 mm in diameter. The finishing is mixed. A technical satin finish with a visible grain runs across the middle case sides, and the chamfered top edges of the lugs carry a high-sheen polished finish, as do the crown guards.
The winding crown is a screw-down Triplock triple-gasket system with integral crown guards. The crystal is scratch-resistant sapphire fitted with the Cyclops date magnifier. Water resistance is 100 metres (330 feet).
The bezel is a bidirectional rotatable 60-minute graduated bezel fitted with a matt black Cerachrom insert in ceramic. The raised numerals and graduations are polished and stand out against the matt, sand-blasted background. The scale allows the wearer to time an elapsed interval, such as the sailing time between two marks, by aligning the bezel against the minute hand. The bevelled lugs on this case are specific to the titanium version.
The 226627 is fitted on an Oyster bracelet in RLX titanium, a three-piece solid-link design with the technical satin grain carried onto the edges of the links. The bracelet shipped with 12 removable sizing links excluding the end links, split 7 on the 12 o’clock side and 5 on the 6 o’clock side.
The clasp is the folding Oysterlock safety clasp, which guards against accidental opening, and it integrates the Easylink comfort extension. Easylink lets the wearer lengthen or shorten the bracelet by approximately 5 mm without tools to suit changes in wrist size through the day.
The RLX titanium Oyster bracelet also carries patented ceramic inserts fitted inside the links. Rolex uses these inserts to improve the bracelet’s flexibility on the wrist and its long-term durability.
The watch runs the Rolex calibre 3235, a self-winding mechanical movement manufactured in-house. It has 31 jewels, beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), and holds an approximate 70-hour power reserve. Winding is bidirectional through the Perpetual rotor.
The 3235 uses Rolex’s patented Chronergy escapement in nickel-phosphorus for higher energy efficiency and resistance to magnetic fields, a paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring, and Paraflex high-performance shock absorbers. Functions are centre hours, minutes and seconds, plus an instantaneous date with rapid setting, and a stop-seconds device for precise time setting.
The watch carries the Superlative Chronometer certification: the movement is chronometer certified by COSC, then tested again by Rolex after casing to a rate of minus 2 to plus 2 seconds per day. The date is set through the winding crown after unscrewing it to the correct position; the crown is screwed back down against the case to restore water resistance.
The case, bezel body, bracelet and clasp are all RLX titanium, a grade 5 titanium alloy Rolex selected for its low weight, mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. The alloy can be worked to a satin or polished finish, which is why the case combines a grained satin surface with polished bevels.
The bezel insert is Cerachrom, Rolex’s proprietary high-tech ceramic, in matt black. The crystal is sapphire. The dial markers and hands are filled with Chromalight luminous material. The bracelet includes patented ceramic inserts inside its links.
The material character of the 226627 is a full-titanium tool watch: darker and more muted in colour than steel, notably lighter on the wrist, and finished to combine a matt ceramic bezel with a satin-grained metal case.

The presentation box changed during the reference’s run, with the updated box appearing on authorised-dealer deliveries from around 2025. A 2024 example is expected to carry the earlier green wave box with the cream interior and the full complement of tags and manuals. A wrong-era or generic box on this reference is straightforward to spot against these two known configurations.
A 2024 example was sold with the Rolex international guarantee of five years from the date of purchase, the standard Rolex warranty length for purchases from July 2015 onward. The guarantee is a chip-embedded, credit-card-format green card, dated and activated by the authorised dealer at the point of sale rather than handwritten. This card is the primary authenticity document for the watch.

The guarantee is the five-year international Rolex guarantee throughout, in the chip-embedded credit-card format; the change between generations is the print layout and security features, not the coverage. Most 2024 examples carry the updated-format card. On a 2024 example the original five-year guarantee remains active and runs to 2029 from the purchase date. A dated, dealer-activated guarantee card is the key document for full-set valuation; a blank or photocopied card is a red flag.
The defining on-wrist trait is weight. Because the case and bracelet are RLX titanium, the 226627 is markedly lighter than an equivalent steel Rolex sports watch, and it registers on the wrist as a light watch rather than a heavy tool piece.
At 42 mm the case is one of the larger Rolex sports watches, but the lugs curve down steeply and the profile is relatively slim, so it wears smaller than the diameter suggests. Media measurements place the lug-to-lug near 49.6 to 50.3 mm and the thickness around 11.6 to 12 mm; Rolex does not publish either figure. The case slides under a cuff without difficulty.
The watch suits medium to larger wrists, from roughly 6.5 inches upward, and reads as a stealthy, utilitarian daily-wear piece: matt ceramic bezel, muted titanium colour, black dial. It is a sports watch for everyday and active wear rather than a dress watch.
The reference 226627 exists in a single configuration: an RLX titanium 42 mm Oyster case, a matt black Cerachrom bezel, an intense black satin dial, an RLX titanium Oyster bracelet with Oysterlock clasp and Easylink, and the calibre 3235. It carries the dial suffix 0001 and has no alternate dial, bracelet or metal variant.
Two neighbouring Yacht-Master 42 references are routinely confused with this one and are separate watches whose specifications do not carry across: the 18 ct white gold 226659 and the 18 ct yellow gold 226658, both fitted on the Oysterflex bracelet rather than a metal Oyster bracelet.
