The Oyster Perpetual 39 is the time-only, no-date centre of Rolex’s foundational Oyster Perpetual line. It pairs the waterproof Oyster case with a self-winding chronometer movement and strips the watch back to hours, minutes, and seconds, positioning it as the entry point to the collection.
Reference 114300‑0001was introduced at Baselworld 2015 as the 39 mm size in the Oyster Perpetual range, sitting above the 34 mm and below the later 41 mm models. It launched with three sunburst dials, dark rhodium (grey), red grape, and blue, and two further dials, white and black, were added at Baselworld 2018.
Within the Rolex lineup at the time it sat at the accessible end of the Oyster family: a full-specification steel Rolex with an in-house chronometer movement and no date complication. It was regular production, not a limited edition. The reference was discontinued in 2020 and replaced by the Oyster Perpetual 41 (reference 124300) and a revised 36 mm model.
This example carries the dark rhodium dial, a grey base with a sunburst (sunray) finish that shifts tone as light moves across it. The hour markers are applied batons in 18 ct white gold, and the dial carries the light blue lacquered accent markers specific to the dark rhodium version of this reference.
The broad markers and the straight baton hands are filled with Chromalight, the luminescent compound that emits a blue glow in the dark and reads white in daylight. There is no date, so the layout is symmetrical around the central axis, with the Rolex crown at twelve and a printed minute track at the outer edge.
Printed dial text runs in the standard Oyster Perpetual arrangement: the crown logo and ROLEX signature below twelve, OYSTER PERPETUAL beneath it, SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED above six, and SWISS MADE at the base of the dial.
The case is the 39 mm round Oyster in Oystersteel, Rolex’s branded 904L stainless steel. The top surfaces are brushed and the case sides and lugs are polished, giving a defined two-finish contrast. The profile is relatively slim for a modern Rolex.
The bezel is smooth and domed. It is fixed and decorative, with no timing or measurement function. A flat sapphire crystal covers the dial, and because there is no date there is no Cyclops magnifier.
The crown is a screw-down Twinlock, sealing the case at the winding tube for water resistance rated to 100 metres. The caseback is solid and screwed down. The case has no crown guards.
The bracelet is the Oyster, a flat three-link design in Oystersteel with solid links and solid end links, finished in brushed steel to match the case tops. The end links seat flush to the 39 mm case.
It closes on a folding Oysterclasp. The clasp integrates the Easylink comfort extension, which allows the wearer to lengthen the bracelet by approximately 5 mm without tools for a small on-the-fly fit adjustment.
The lug width is 20 mm. This reference was fitted on the Oyster bracelet across its production run.
The watch runs on the Rolex Calibre 3132, a self-winding mechanical movement developed and made in-house. It is time-only, driving central hours, minutes, and seconds with no date.
The movement is a certified Swiss chronometer (COSC). It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), holds 31 jewels, and offers a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. It uses the blue Parachrom hairspring with a Breguet overcoil, Paraflex shock absorbers, and a Glucydur balance regulated by Microstella nuts.
Operation is simple: unscrew the crown and it reaches two pulled positions, one to wind the mainspring and one to set the hands. The calibre has a stop-seconds (hacking) function, so the seconds hand halts when the crown is pulled to the setting position for to-the-second synchronisation.
The overall material character is a fully steel watch with white gold dial furniture, built around durability and everyday wear rather than precious-metal display.

The reference used one factory box generation across its entire 2015 to 2020 run, so an original 2016 full set carries the green box with the cream sleeve and green card holder above. A current-style or plain service box on a 2016 example points to replacement packaging rather than the era-correct set, which matters when a watch is listed as a full set.
A 2016 example was sold with Rolex’s international warranty. Rolex extended its coverage from two years to five years for watches purchased from July 2015 onward, so a 2016 sale carries the five-year term. Coverage in this era was documented on a green and white plastic guarantee card in Rolex’s credit-card format with a dealer and country-code style layout, dealer-stamped and dated at the point of sale, listing the serial number, model or reference number, bracelet reference, and dial designation.

A 2016 example carries the Gen 1 green and white plastic card; the 2020 card format reached only the final pieces sold late in the run. The original five-year warranty on a 2016 example has now expired, having lapsed around 2021. A stamped and dated original guarantee card remains the primary sale-authenticity document for a full-set 114300.
The reference was replaced in 2020 by the Oyster Perpetual 41 (124300) and a revised 36 mm model, ending the 39 mm size in the collection.
At 39 mm the case wears close to its stated size, with the lug span and flat bezel keeping presence moderate rather than large. The slim case profile and the absence of a date keep the watch low and easy under a shirt cuff.
The brushed Oyster bracelet with solid links gives a dense, balanced feel, and the Easylink extension covers small daily fit changes without a trip to remove links. The proportions suit medium wrists in the roughly 6.5 to 7.5 inch range.
This is a general-purpose watch: legible enough for daily wear, plain enough to pass as dress-casual, and unobtrusive across most settings.
