The Datejust 36 reference 126200 is the all-steel, smooth-bezel version of Rolex’s date-displaying dress watch in the 36 mm case size. It carries the date at 3 o’clock under a Cyclops magnifier and sits at the entry point of the Datejust 36 line, below the white gold fluted-bezel and Rolesor two-tone versions.
Rolex introduced this generation of the Datejust 36 at Baselworld 2018, pairing a subtly reworked case with the then-new calibre 3235. The two-tone Rolesor configurations came first, and the all-Oystersteel references such as the 126200 followed in 2019. It replaced the previous-generation 116200, which used the calibre 3135.
Within the current Datejust 36 catalogue the 126200 is the base steel model. Its defining feature against its siblings is the smooth, domed Oystersteel bezel, which separates it from the fluted white gold bezel of the 126234 and the gold-bezel Rolesor references.
This configuration carries a bright black lacquered dial with a glossy finish. The layout is clean: applied baton hour markers, a matching set of baton hands, and no numerals. The markers and hands are filled with Chromalight, Rolex’s luminous material, which emits a blue glow in low light.
The date sits in a window at 3 o’clock, magnified by the Cyclops lens set into the crystal above it. The dial is printed with the crown logo at 12, the model lines “Rolex,” “Oyster Perpetual,” and “Datejust” in the upper half, and “Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified” above 6 o’clock, with “Swiss Made” at the base. The inner bezel ring (rehaut) is engraved with a repeating “ROLEX” pattern and an individual serial number at 6 o’clock.
The case is a 36 mm Oyster case in Oystersteel, built around a monobloc middle case with a screw-down case back and screw-down winding crown. The profile is the rounded, tapering Oyster shape, redesigned in fine detail for this generation to accommodate the calibre 3235.
The crystal is scratch-resistant sapphire with a Cyclops lens over the date. The winding crown uses the Twinlock double waterproofness system, and the solid case back screws down against the middle case. Water resistance is rated to 100 metres.
The bezel on the 126200 is smooth and domed, made of Oystersteel to match the case, and is fixed. It is a decorative bezel with no timing or measurement function, and it is the element that distinguishes this reference from the fluted-bezel Datejust 36 models.
This reference is fitted with the Oyster bracelet, a flat three-piece link design in Oystersteel with a brushed and polished finish. It fastens with a folding Oysterclasp. The Datejust 36 Oyster bracelet ships as a twelve-link bracelet in full-set condition.
The clasp contains the Easylink comfort extension system, which allows the wearer to lengthen the bracelet by approximately 5 mm without tools for on-the-fly adjustment.
The 126200 is offered in two bracelet configurations under the same reference number: this Oyster three-link version and a Jubilee five-piece link version. Both are made entirely of Oystersteel on this steel reference, as the smooth-bezel model has no gold components.
The watch is powered by the Rolex calibre 3235, an in-house automatic movement introduced in 2016 and rolled out across the Datejust 36 from this generation. It has 31 jewels, beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), and holds an approximately 70-hour power reserve.
The movement uses the Chronergy escapement, a Rolex-patented design with a nickel-phosphorus pallet fork and escape wheel that is resistant to magnetic interference. It runs on a paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring with a Rolex overcoil, regulated by four gold Microstella nuts on a variable-inertia balance, and is mounted on Paraflex shock absorbers. Winding is bidirectional through the Perpetual rotor.
Functions are centre hour, minute, and seconds hands, plus an instantaneous date at 3 o’clock with rapid setting, and a stop-seconds function for precise time setting. The date is set by pulling the crown to its middle position and turning it; the time is set from the outer crown position.
The calibre 3235 is certified as a Superlative Chronometer. It is COSC-certified before casing, then tested again by Rolex after casing to a precision of minus 2 to plus 2 seconds per day.
The case, bezel, and bracelet are Oystersteel, Rolex’s proprietary corrosion-resistant steel from the 904L family. The crystal is sapphire. The dial is a black lacquered surface with applied metal hour markers, and the hands and markers carry Chromalight luminous material. The clasp is Oystersteel to match the bracelet.

Rollout of the Gen 2 box was gradual, so some 2025 watches may still carry the earlier Gen 1 box. A 2020-production 126200 shipped with the Gen 1 box and cream sleeve. A service-returned watch can come back in whichever current box the service centre uses rather than its original packaging.
A 126200 sold in the 2020 era carried Rolex’s 5-year international guarantee, which applies to all Rolex watches purchased from July 2015 onward. Coverage is documented on a plastic guarantee card in credit-card format.
A 2020 example sits on the transition between two card designs. Watches sold up to approximately mid-2020 carried the earlier green-and-white card, completed by the retailer with reference, serial, and purchaser or date information. Watches sold from approximately mid-2020 onward carried the revised dark-green card, which is electronically activated by the authorised retailer and generally does not print the purchaser’s name. The card is the primary authenticity document for the watch, and its serial and model numbers must match the engravings on the watch.

Distribution of each card generation was gradual, so an early-2026 watch may still carry Gen 2 paperwork rather than Gen 3. A 2022 126200 set clearly shows the Gen 2 card. The 5-year guarantee on a 2020-sold 126200 has expired as of 2026, since coverage runs five years from the original purchase date. On the resale market the original stamped or activated card still functions as the key piece of authenticity documentation after the coverage period ends, and a blank, undated, or photocopied card is a warning sign.
At 36 mm the Datejust 36 wears as a mid-sized watch that suits a wide range of wrists, from smaller to medium-large, and reads as a true unisex size. The rounded Oyster case and short, tapering lugs keep it compact on the wrist.
The smooth bezel and slim case profile keep the watch relatively flat, so it slides under a shirt cuff easily, which suits its role as a dress-leaning daily watch. The Oyster bracelet gives it a sportier, more robust feel than the dressier Jubilee, and the Easylink extension allows small comfort adjustments through the day.
