The Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin ref. 15202ST is the modern continuation of the original Royal Oak ref. 5402, the stainless steel sports watch designed by Gerald Genta and launched by Audemars Piguet in 1972. It keeps the 39 mm case, the octagonal bezel with eight exposed screws, the integrated bracelet, and the extra-thin automatic movement that defined the first model.
The 15202 line was introduced in 2000 to succeed the earlier “Jumbo” references (14802 and 15002). At SIHH 2012, for the Royal Oak’s 40th anniversary, Audemars Piguet refreshed the reference to bring it visually closer to the 5402. That refresh moved the applied AP monogram from 12 o’clock back to a position above 6 o’clock, returned the dial to the smaller “Petite Tapisserie” pattern, added double applied markers at 12 o’clock, and matched the date disc to the dial colour.
This steel version was sold under a single reference, 15202ST.OO.1240ST.01, and sits in the permanent Royal Oak collection as the flagship “Jumbo.” A 2015 example belongs to the post-2012 generation described above. The reference remained in production until 2022, when it was replaced by the ref. 16202ST fitted with the new Calibre 7121.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extra Thin "Jumbo" Blue Dial Stainless Steel 39mm MINT COMPLETE SET 15202ST.OO.1240ST.01
Nicknamed тАЬJumboтАЭ for its daring size at launch, the 39mm case was once considered oversized in a world of restrained dress watches.…
The dial is blue with the “Petite Tapisserie” guilloch├й pattern, a grid of small pyramid-topped squares cut into the dial surface. Hour markers are applied white gold with a luminescent coating, and the hands are the white gold Royal Oak style, also luminous. The marker at 12 o’clock is a double baton, a detail introduced with the 2012 refresh.

The applied “AP” monogram sits above the 6 o’clock marker on this generation. The upper dial carries the stacked “AUDEMARS PIGUET” and “AUTOMATIC” text, and “SWISS MADE” is printed at the base of the dial.
The date is displayed at 3 o’clock through an aperture, with the date disc colour-matched to the blue dial. A glareproofed sapphire crystal covers the dial.
The case is stainless steel, 39 mm in diameter and 8.1 mm thick, in the slab-sided Royal Oak profile with a thin bezel and integrated lugs. Surfaces combine satin brushing on the top with polished chamfers along the edges. Lug-to-lug measures approximately 48.6 mm.

The bezel is the octagonal Royal Oak design, secured by eight hexagonal white gold screws that pass through the bezel and thread into the case. It is fixed and decorative, not a working scale. The crown at 3 o’clock is signed with the AP monogram.
The front crystal is glareproofed sapphire, and the caseback is a glareproofed sapphire display back that exposes the movement. Water resistance is 50 m.
The bracelet is the integrated stainless steel Royal Oak design, tapering from the case toward the clasp, with links finished in satin brushing on top and polished chamfers on the edges to match the case. It is built specifically for this case and is not interchangeable with a standard lug-and-springbar strap.

The bracelet closes with an AP folding clasp of the double-folding deployant type. The links are held by screws and are removed for sizing.
The watch runs on the Audemars Piguet Calibre 2121, an automatic movement with a central rotor. It is derived from Calibre 2120 (1967), which was built on the LeCoultre 920 ├йbauche developed for Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin; Audemars Piguet brought production of the movement in-house in the early 2000s. The date function raises the 2121 to 3.05 mm in height, and it has historically been one of the thinnest self-winding movements with a central rotor and date.
Specifications: 36 jewels, a frequency of 19,800 vph (2.75 Hz), and a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. The movement uses a variable-inertia (free-sprung) balance, and the skeletonised gold oscillating weight runs on peripheral ruby rollers around a circular track, a construction that keeps the automatic module thin.
Functions are hours, minutes, and date. The date is corrected through the crown, and the crown also hand-winds and sets the time.
The case, bezel, and bracelet are stainless steel, brushed on the primary surfaces with polished chamfers. The eight bezel screws are white gold, as are the applied hour markers and the hands on the dial. Both the front crystal and the caseback are glareproofed sapphire. The dial is finished in blue with the engraved Petite Tapisserie pattern.
The overall material character is a steel sports watch with white gold dial furniture and sapphire on both sides of the case.

The reference used one presentation-box generation throughout this window. Auction records show the same core fitted-box arrangement from 2012 through 2020. A 2015 example was delivered in that wooden fitted box, and a set presented today in a box that does not match the period is not original to the era even when the box is a genuine Audemars Piguet box.
A 2015 sale falls in the paper-document era for this reference. The watch was supplied with a paper warranty booklet or Certificate of Guarantee, physically completed or stamped and dated by the selling Audemars Piguet boutique or authorized retailer, normally kept with the instruction booklet and presentation-box paperwork. The base manufacturer warranty was two years. The completed, stamped, and dated certificate is the primary documentation piece for a full set of this era.

A 2015 example belongs to Generation 1, so a period-correct full set carries the completed paper Certificate of Guarantee rather than the green plastic card, which arrived later in the reference’s run. The original two-year warranty on a 2015 watch has expired, and the online extension to five years applies to recent authorized-network purchases rather than to a watch of this age. On the current market the papers serve as dated proof of original sale and authenticity, and a completed, stamped certificate carries more documentary weight than a blank one.
At 39 mm wide and 8.1 mm thick, the “Jumbo” wears as a flat, wide watch rather than a tall one. The thin case and the integrated bracelet keep the whole watch low on the wrist, and it slides under a cuff more easily than most steel sports watches of similar diameter.
The 39 mm diameter and roughly 48.6 mm lug-to-lug suit a broad range of wrist sizes, and the tapering bracelet concentrates the weight toward the case. It fits both dress and casual wear, which is the range the Royal Oak was designed to cover.
Across the 2012 to 2022 generation, this steel “Jumbo” was sold in one configuration: a 39 mm stainless steel case, a blue Petite Tapisserie dial with white gold applied markers and the AP monogram above 6 o’clock, a stainless steel bracelet with AP folding clasp, and the Calibre 2121.
