Nicknamed “The Beast” at its 1993 launch, the Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph was redesigned into a 43mm generation in 2021, and this steel-and-black-ceramic model was one of its first references. Powered by AP’s fully in-house Calibre 4401 flyback movement, this model was the first Offshore Chronograph to drop the modular chronograph architecture used in earlier Offshores.
Presents itself in mint condition with little to no signs of wear. Its black Méga Tapisserie dial earns its place, with each tile of the large-scale waffle pattern catching light at a different angle to give real depth to an all-black surface. Eight highly polished hex screws sit at the octagon’s corners of the black ceramic bezel, the same design language Gérald Genta established in the original 1972 Royal Oak. Through the sapphire caseback, the Calibre 4401 is fully on display: column wheel, blackened 22-carat gold rotor, and Geneva-striped bridges.
Functions include hours, minutes, small seconds, date, and flyback chronograph. A black ceramic screw-down crown sets the date in position 1 and the time in position 2. At 2 o’clock, the top pusher starts and stops the chronograph. The bottom pusher at 4 o’clock triggers the flyback, where a single press while it’s running resets the chronograph to zero and restarts it instantly.
Comes as a full set, double-boxed with a watch pillow, AP warranty card, additional brown calfskin leather strap. and document sleeve with Audemars Piguet branding.
Complete with both the black rubber and brown calfskin straps and the first fully in-house flyback chronograph in Offshore history, this is the modern Beast at its most capable. Add the 26420SO.OO.A002CA.01 to your collection while this configuration is still available.
