Dreamed up in the 1970s by Gerald Genta, the Picasso of watch design, the Ingenieur shares its integrated bracelet bloodline with the Royal Oak and the Nautilus. Aqua green now floods the famous grid dial, a shade that shifts from teal to deep emerald as the light moves. Made for the collector who already owns the usual suspects and wants something with a heartbeat.
Presents itself in mint condition with little to no signs of wear. Set on a checkered grid dial, the aqua surface plays like tweed catching sunlight, with tiny lines crossing at ninety degrees for depth you can get lost in. Wrapped in a round bezel locked down by five polygonal screws, the case blends mirror polish and brushed steel so it flips between dressy and sporty as you turn your wrist. Paired with an integrated H-link bracelet, the steel flows straight off the case and hugs the wrist like it was measured for you.
Functions include hours, minutes, seconds, and date. A signed screw down crown sits at three o’clock. Unscrew it until it springs free, then give it a gentle wind to wake the movement. Pulled out one click, the crown quick sets the date, so roll it to yesterday’s date first. Pulled out one more click, the crown sets the time and stops the seconds hand for precision, so sweep the hands forward past midnight to flip the date to today, then keep going to the correct hour and minute. Push the crown back in and screw it down to seal the case to 100 meters. Powered by the IWC manufactured 32111 caliber, a full wind holds around five days of reserve.
Comes as a complete set, boxed with the outer box, inner presentation box, leather travel case, warranty card, instruction booklet, and EasX-CHANGE quick change guide.
Few modern watches carry this much design pedigree while still feeling fresh and a little rebellious. Genta’s engineering masterpiece, reborn for a new generation of collectors who grew up wanting one, wears easy at forty millimeters and punches well above its weight in presence. Slide it on once, and it has a funny way of never coming back off.
