Finished in ‘Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50,’ this midnight blue of a 1972 Royal Oak is revived in ceramic, a 43mm tribute to Audemars Piguet’s 150th anniversary and one of only three to debut a new dark blue ceramic. One for a collector who has the sport watches covered, an Offshore where dial, bezel, and strap all run one deep tone.
Presents itself in mint condition with little to no signs of wear. “Méga Tapisserie” dial reads like a deep blue waffle that drifts from near-black in shadow to rich cobalt in light, the AP monogram sitting at 12 o’clock. Its bezel, crown, and pushers come in matching midnight-blue ceramic, satin-brushed with polished bevels, scratch-resistant, and sharp contrast against the steel. Blending grained surfaces with mirror-bright edges, the case flips between matte and gloss as the wrist turns, the play of light that made the original Royal Oak a 1970s icon.
Functions include hours, minutes, small seconds, date, and flyback chronograph. Screw-locked crown unscrews to wind the in-house movement, then pulls fully out to set the time and pushes back one notch to quick-set the date located at 4:30. Top pusher starts and stops the chronograph, while bottom pusher resets it to zero. Flyback timing is the pilot’s-watch flex, resetting and relaunching the timer with a single press, no stopping required. A 70-hour power reserve handles a weekend off the wrist, and 100 meters of water resistance shrugs off everyday splashes and rain.
Comes as a full set, double-boxed with an international warranty card and an additional blue textured rubber strap.
Among the trio, it stands alone as the steel-and-ceramic two-tone, deep blue against bright steel, the sport-watch take on the milestone shade. Buyers chasing the Royal Oak anniversary story, the 1972 color, and two-strap versatility find all three in one piece. Missing a midnight-blue chapter of Royal Oak history? Add it to your collection.
