Born in 2019 as the first series-produced stainless steel timepiece in Lange’s over-170-year history, the Odysseus rewrote what a Saxon watch could be. Reserved for the collector who already owns the dress-watch grails and now wants the one Glashütte piece nobody expected. The quiet flex at a table full of the usual suspects.
Presents itself in brand new condition with no signs of wear. Dark blue brass dial reads like a dozen shades of blue at once, its frosted grained center set against a finely patterned chapter ring. Mirror-polished bevels run every lug edge against brushed flanks, so the case shifts between gloss and matte as you move. Through the sapphire caseback, the in-house L155.1 Datomatic shows a platinum-rimmed rotor and hand-finished balance cock few sports watches can rival.
Functions include hours, minutes, small seconds, outsize date, and day of the week. The screw-down crown at 3 o’clock winds the movement and sets the time once unscrewed and pulled out. The upper crown-guard pusher advances the date, while the lower advances the day, both sealed to 120 meters.
Comes as a complete set, double-boxed with brown leather travel folio.
Few watches ask this much patience to acquire and reward it this fully. Sold only through Lange’s own boutiques, waitlisted for years, surrendered by owners almost never. Made for the collector who measures a collection by what others couldn’t get.
